It’s not that there is a lack of women in the insurance industry. It’s that there is just not that many in senior positions.
Enya He, regional director for the south central US region at Lloyd’s, told Insurance Business recently: “Overall we are in the minority. We’re still a white, male-dominated environment. That’s just a fact.”
But change is on the way. In New Zealand at least, there are a few women who have already made it to the top and some well on their way. And they will be at the Insurance Business Women in Insurance Summit this July.
Michelle Ashby, learning leader – people experience, Suncorp NZ and chair of ANZIIF Women Council will lead proceedings reflecting on how far the industry has come since the days of the ‘old boys’ club’. A panel discussion with heads from QBE Insurance, New Zealand Insurance, NZ Brokers Management and Aurora Insurance will delve into overcoming challenges when rising to the top, and Sarah O’Connell, general manager, Gallagher Bassett NZ, will discuss breaking that old-fashioned mentality and understanding unconscious bias.
Super Saver registrations end this Friday, April 27. For more information and to book online click here.
The Women in Insurance Summit will be held at the Cordis Auckland on Tuesday, July 24. The event is accredited for 2.5 IBANZ CPD points.
