There’s a new claims leadership team for Markel International’s wholesale and national markets businesses.
The specialist insurer announced that Chris O’Shea, who became head of reinsurance claims in 2016 before adding specialty and financial lines to his remit in January 2019, is now claims director for wholesale. He brings more than 19 years of technical claims handling experience in the London market to the post.
Meanwhile Richard Napoli, who has been with Markel for nine years, sees his UK responsibilities expanded to include oversight of Canada and Europe in his new role as claims and legal services director for national markets. The Irwin Mitchell alumnus most recently led both the fee paying legal team and claims for national markets, UK.
Also part of the leadership team is company stalwart Sarah Wilcox, who has been appointed as operations director for claims to focus on claims efficiency and data management. Her three decades of insurance industry experience include 16 years at Markel.
“As both the wholesale and national markets sides of the business go from strength to strength, it has become increasingly apparent that we need to be more strategic in the claims support we provide for them,” said Markel International president William Stovin, who called the three executives the perfect candidates.
“This new leadership team means that the different areas of the business will have more specialised management, tailored to suit the specific needs.”
Stovin also described the trio as “all renowned, both internally and externally, for their drive, ambition, and hard work in moving the Markel claims service forward.” He added: “We’ve no doubt that they’ll work together brilliantly, to ensure synergy across our claims teams but also the specialist focus required for each area.”
