Lime electronic scooters are set to hit the streets of five more cities: Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Queenstown.
In an article by Stuff, a Dunedin City Council spokeswoman reportedly said the council was not planning to mark the launch of the e-scooters.
The spokeswoman told the publication that, unlike with some councils, it did require Lime to pay for a mobile trading permit in Dunedin. Instead, council representatives reportedly met with the company and “developed an agreement with them on safety messaging and reporting incidents.” This means Lime will have to monitor the use of scooters, with the council to liaise with it about any problems.
In October, Lime secured approval from authorities to launch its service in the country. Two weeks after launch, there had been a reported boom in the number of injuries connected to the vehicles. Stuff reported more than 100 e-scooter related ACC claims were lodged within the first month of Lime’s launch.
