Residents in the Auckland suburb of Kingsland want compensation from energy company Vector following a power fault that caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage, it has been reported.
In a report by NZ City, the angry residents accuse the firm of failing to take any responsibility and refusing to cover thousands of dollars in insurance excess and other costs.
Earlier this month, 10 houses in the area were hit by abnormally high voltage due to a transformer fault.
The publication detailed the case of Matt Smith, whose appliances in his home were fried as a result of the incident. Vector reportedly told him to claim insurance, and that indications were he’d get a payout. However, Smith found he has to pay a $750 excess and will lose a no-claims bonus leaving him out of pocket by around $1,000.
Other homes in the street are in a similar position, the report added.
