Insurance advice for those caught in Hurricane Lane chaos

New Zealanders travelling to Hawaii are being urged to contact their airline or travel agent to find out if their travel has been disrupted following Hurricane Lane.

Hurricane Lane was projected to pass near Hawaii, at the time of writing, as a Category 3 hurricane. Heavy rain was expected across the island and flash flood watches were in effect.

According to safetravel.govt.nz, Kiwis caught up in travel chaos should ensure they keep all receipts to support travel insurance claims.

Hawaiian Airlines issued a travel waiver for Hurricane Lane, whereby it will grant a flight reservation change with no fee for guests travelling to/from/within the State of Hawaii within certain dates. Air New Zealand, meanwhile, issued a travel alert, encouraging travellers to consider travelling earlier or deferring travel to a later date.

Kiwis in Hawaii are also advised to follow the instruction of local authorities at all times (including any evacuation orders) and seek suitable shelter.
