Far Out Friday: Young driver red-faced after photo failure

With an insurance policy it is always important to read the fine-print…and the rest of the print as well.

It seems like a simple request: to organise car insurance an insurer needs photos straight on and of each side of the vehicle but Arkansas woman, Alyssa Stringfellow, misread the request.

Stringfellow was applying for insurance on her grandmother’s car in a bid to lower her premiums but rather than send the insurance agent photos of the vehicle, she sent them photos of herself.

Stringfellow, who posted the incident to Facebook group Love What Matters, said that her grandmother contacted her insurance agent who said in order to arrange the policy they needed a driver’s license number, date of birth and the photos - which is where Stringfellow got a little mixed up.

“The crazy thing is, I asked my mom to take the pictures after I got off work, and we discussed why in the world he would need pictures of me, never once considering it was supposed to be of my car,” Stringfellow posted.

When the agent received the details and photographs, they politely responded that Stringfellow had got the wrong end of the stick.

“I am going to need pictures just like you took, except it needs to be of your vehicle,” the agent replied.

It was then that Stringfellow realised her mistake.

“Needless to say, I was ridiculously embarrassed; and everyone at work had a good laugh at my obvious misinterpretation.”

Stringfellow’s grandmother was not too impressed.

“Alyssa Rachael, did you send him pictures of YOURSELF!? It was supposed to be of your car!” Stringfellow’s grandmother wrote in a text.

“So he [the agent] had called my Memaw [grandmother] and told her, and apparently they laughed about it on the phone for a good five minutes.”
