Far Out Friday: Insurance bosses beam World Cup games to workers’ desks

Insurance company workers in Wales are being encouraged to watch live football matches between calls in a bid to boost morale.

Employees working for Wales-based insurance giant Admiral are being allowed to watch World Cup football games streamed live to their desk in a bid to keep them engaged.

Admiral, which has over 5000 members of staff, will email staff links to log in to each day to catch games at their desks and keep up with all the excitement in Brazil following similar successful initiatives during the Olympics and Six Nations championship, reports the South Wales Echo.

Admiral spokesman James Carnduff said: “We can’t ignore the World Cup. It’s a huge, huge sporting event and we know staff will be interested.

“It’s made very clear that work comes first and customers must have the best service possible, but if staff are on a break or between calls, they can watch it at their desks.”

He said the idea came about during the Olympics and had continued for Wimbledon and Six Nations rugby.

“Although a lot of games start after 5pm, we have staff working until 10pm and at weekends.”
