Energy provider Vector has agreed to fully compensate Kingsland residents following the power fault that caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage, according to reports.
Earlier this week, Kingsland residents accused the firm of failing to take any responsibility and refusing to cover thousands of dollars in insurance excess and other costs.
Now, Vector has reversed its stance and emailed residents, the NZ Herald reported.
“In this exceptional circumstance, Vector will reimburse any excess insurance costs incurred, or any associated insurance costs,” the message reads.
However, consumer advocate Jessica Wilson told the publication the lines company is still not doing enough to cover its legal obligations. She reportedly said the residents should not even have to make an insurance claim. She pointed out that power retailers, such as Mercury and Trustpower, should fully compensate residents and then recoup their costs with a claim against Vector.
