The Commerce Commission has released its priority focus areas for the upcoming year – and one of them is motor vehicle insurance.
Each year, the commission targets its resources on specific areas that can affect consumers, businesses, and markets. This year, some of the focus areas include environmental claims, online retail, new up-front regulatory rules for fibre broadband services, and motor vehicle financing and related add-ons.
“In the areas of environmental claims, online retail and motor vehicle insurance, we will look to understand the issues, identify current and potential harm, educate traders, empower consumers and take enforcement action where needed,” said Anna Rawlings, chairwoman of Commerce Commission.
Other focus areas for the upcoming year include educating traders about conduct that may contravene cartel laws, monitoring and reporting on telecommunications retail service quality, resetting the five-year revenue limits and quality standards for electricity networks, and completing the fuel market industry.
Rawlings said that the identification of these focus areas will not stop the commission from undertaking investigations and reinforcement actions in other areas affecting consumers where they think their involvement can help.
