Insurers were braced for potential claims late last week as travellers reported flight cancellations at Auckland Airport.
Travellers took to social media to complain about the long queues as well as delayed and cancelled flights in the domestic terminal for Air NZ flights from Auckland to Christchurch after 1 pm on Friday, NZ Herald reports.
"Backlog of travellers rebooking after cancelled flights to Chch. Fog all morning," a traveller posted on Twitter.
Air NZ confirmed that fog in Christchurch had caused delays to some of its services, suggesting that travellers should check if their travel policies cover trip curtailment.
"Air New Zealand has been working to rebook customers whose flights have been disrupted on the next available service,” a spokesperson told NZ Herald.
"The airline has also put on two additional return services today (Friday) between Auckland and Christchurch (operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and an A320neo), to accommodate customers who have been disrupted."
Air NZ encouraged customers to make changes to their bookings online and to contact the airline through its social media channels for any concern.
