Friends and colleagues have paid tribute to Auckland Insurance director Harvey Kerr who passed away suddenly this week and was laid to rest yesterday.

Kerr, who had more than 30 years’ industry experience, was a popular character at industry events and was well known for his generosity and helping those just starting out.

Auckland Insurance, a family business which he ran with wife Chris Kerr, is a member of Insurance Advisernet NZ (IANZ) which is helping staff to maintain the business over the coming weeks.

IANZ director David Crawford said Kerr would be greatly missed.

“Harvey was a larger than life character who spoke his mind but had a heart of gold,” he said.

“His clients loved him and there are many stories of Harvey going out of his way to help people.”

Crawford said Kerr had been battling a lung condition for some time but had stabilised until last weekend when he was admitted to hospital.

He died suddenly but peacefully in Auckland Hospital on 30 November.

“At his funeral yesterday there was story after story of people recounting adventures with Harvey and they all had a common theme – he was one of life’s good blokes,” Crawford said.
