Asteron Life has extended its Best Doctors medical network service to new and existing customers of its trauma recovery and cancer cover.
Best Doctors gives users access to a wide international network of medical specialists. Prior to the extension, the service was available only to Asteron Life’s disability insurance customers and to eligible insurance advisers.
“When it comes to the mental and physical health of our customers, supporting them to get the very best advice is paramount,” said Grant Willis, head of life at Asteron Life. “With Best Doctors, that’s exactly what you get – access to world-leading medical experts who can answer your questions or give you a second opinion. Life insurance is about providing support to our customers when they need it, and Best Doctors enables our customers to make medical decisions with confidence when they are going through a tough time. Better yet, it’s included at no extra cost – it’s just another way Asteron Life has got your back.”
Willis said the expanded benefit makes Best Doctors available not just to insureds, but also to their partners, children, and parents.
Since 2013, Asteron Life has offered some customers a range of Best Doctors benefits, including the Ask an Expert and Expert Medical Opinion services. The updated package now includes online GP consults, enabling customers to access to New Zealand registered GPs within 24 hours, and the new Mental Health Navigator service, which provides direct access to mental health experts and provides general advice on mental health conditions and guidance on how to navigate the mental health system.
“Following the extension of Best Doctors being made available to those Asteron Life customers with disability insurances in September 2020, we have seen a marked increase in people accessing the service and getting the assistance they need at a time when it is needed most,” said Mike Morris, Best Doctors’ New Zealand country manager. “Now, with the addition of trauma recovery and cancer cover policy holders, our services will reach more New Zealanders than ever before.”
