AIA New Zealand has announced several enhancements to its AIA Living Trauma product range. The changes are focused on broadening the cover available for children.

The new enhancements include:

  • Widening the coverage ages for the built-in children’s trauma and optional children’s and maternity benefits. Cover will become effective at three months and last until the child turns 21. Previously, coverage began at age two.
  • Altering the congenital conditions exclusion to only exclude congenital conditions where signs and symptoms develop before the child is three months of age.
  • Introducing three new claimable conditions to the built-in newborn children’s benefit and enhancing the existing “absence of limbs” condition.
  • Introducing a new children’s congenital conditions benefit to the optional children’s and maternity benefit, providing cover if a child is diagnosed with and undergoes treatment for one of eight listed congenital conditions.

AIA also enhanced the coverages for various illnesses and improved support for customers who have extended hospital stays.

According to the insurer, these enhancements were made to ensure its products continue to be fit for purpose and provide better claim outcomes for customers.

“Unfortunately, experiencing a trauma such as serious illness or injury at least once in our lives is more common than you might think,” said Sharron Botica, AIA NZ chief partnership distribution officer. “With these enhancements in place, we hope that parents can have greater peace of mind that we’ve got their back, when they need it most.”

New campaign to give away one year’s premium

AIA NZ also announced a campaign that will give 50 customers the opportunity to win one year’s premium, worth up to $1,500.

To participate, customers must take out a new eligible policy with AIA before the end of the year. The 50 winners will be drawn and notified beginning Jan. 13.

The eligible AIA policies are AIA Living – Personal, AIA Living – Business, AIA Private Health, AIA Private Health Plus, AIA Cancer Care, AIA Start-Up Income Protection, ASB Lifestyle Security Plan – Personal, ASB Lifestyle Security Plan – Business, ASB Start-up Income Protection, ASB Private Health and ASB Private Health Plus.

With a recent study by the Financial Services Council highlighting the high level of underinsurance among New Zealanders, Botica said she hopes the offer will help financial advisers in their client conversations and ultimately motivate more Kiwis to get covered.

“At AIA we want to help more Kiwis best protect themselves and their loved ones, and to support them in leading Healthier, Longer, Better Lives,” Botica said. “We hope with this campaign, we can assist them to do just that.”
