JLT is a British corporation headquartered in London, England. It has offices across Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Middle East and Africa, and its New Zealand office is currently based in Auckland.
The company is one of the leading insurance brokers in the region, offering a range of insurance and risk solutions to its clients. The company was initially established in 1972 as a division of Jardine Matheson, and Jardine Insurance Brokers was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1997. It became Jardine Lloyd Thompson in 1997 through its merger with Lloyd Thompson Group, and in July 2009 it rebranded as JLT. In 2019 the JLT Group was acquired by Marsh & McLennan Companies.
The global company provides risk and insurance advice, consultancy and captive management, as well as a range of employee benefits to its clients. The New Zealand branch offers access to a range of specialist insurance products through bespoke agreements struck exclusively with JLT.

Matthew Riddle – CEO
Riddle has over 25 years’ broking and insurance underwriting experience across New Zealand and London. He joined JLT New Zealand in 1991 and was appointed as director in 1996. He currently delivers risk and insurance services to Wellington and South Island clients, and manages the company’s public sector business nationwide. Riddle also led the establishment of the Echelon claims management business in New Zealand.
Sui Chung – Finance Director
Chung has over 25 years of commercial finance experience in New Zealand and joined JLT in 1999 as financial controller, before being appointed as finance director in 2013. He manages the financial activities of the New Zealand group and is responsible for financial management, reporting and compliance, along with accounting and taxation legislation. He also manages the company’s treasury and secretarial functions.
Martin Holden – Broker Manager – Wellington
Holden joined JLT New Zealand in 2013 and is responsible for the delivery of its broking services to Wellington clients. He has 29 years’ experience in the New Zealand insurance industry, including two years working as an assessor and loss adjuster, seven years as an underwriter and the past 20 years as an insurance broker. He also has an in-depth knowledge of construction project risks, and has led the design, marketing and placement of construction insurance programmes in New Zealand and overseas.
Shaun Sellwood – Broker Manager – Christchurch
Sellwood joined JLT as Christchurch broking manager in June 2013. He has over 33 years’ experience in insurance, having worked across London, Australia and New Zealand over the course of his career. He has notable expertise in executive and professional insurance lines, and has been a specialist in this area for the last 20 years.
Other key figures include David Lynch, Philip Clauzel and Deborah Fisher, divisional managers of specialty, enterprise solutions and client & business relationships, respectively.
