It opened its second office in Queenstown in 1978, which has since expanded to almost 20 staff to accommodate the needs of the major commercial and tourist centre. Anderson Lloyd briefly had an office in Wanaka, though this closed down in 1990.
The firm opened its Christchurch office in 1998, which currently houses almost 30 staff including five partners. Its newest office opened in Auckland in 2014, which significantly bolstered the firm’s high-end commercial capacity. The Auckland office currently has 23 staff including partners, associates and solicitors.
Anderson Lloyd celebrated its 150th birthday in 2012, where it recognised its growth into a major local law firm with strong practices in corporate and commercial law, resource management, litigation, urban development and rural business.
Anderson Lloyd has an extensive insurance practice, and has acted for insurers in cases involving a range of issues including business interruption, marine risk, material damage and public and statutory liability. Some of its most notable cases include Palmer v Danes Shotover Rafts, a personal injury dispute which established liability for general damages, and Western Pacific Insurance Limited v Policyholders of Canterbury, which dealt with some complicated issues involving insurance charges arising from the Canterbury earthquakes.
