With holiday travel planning ramping up, Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad has launched a limited-time promotion on travel insurance, spotlighting the rising importance of coverage amid frequent travel delays.
From Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, 2024, Allianz is offering a 20% discount on its Travel Care and Travel Easy (Single Trip Coverage) policies when purchased using the promo code “HOLIYAY20%.”
Allianz General said the campaign emphasises the need for travel protection as disruptions have affected Malaysian air travellers more frequently in recent months.
Coverage under Allianz’s travel policies includes benefits for accidental death and permanent disability, medical expenses, trip cancellation or interruption, loss of luggage and personal items, travel delays, and other unforeseen issues.
Travellers can access this offer by purchasing a policy either through Allianz’s authorised agents or online.
Allianz General noted that between January and August 2024, about 24% of flights operated by Malaysian airlines experienced delays, attributed to factors like operational challenges, crew shortages, adverse weather, technical issues, and low passenger demand.
Sazali Rahman, deputy chief sales officer at Allianz General, advised travellers to consider the costs of unplanned disruptions when arranging holiday trips.
“When you book your holiday, make sure to factor in the cost of things going wrong. A mistake a lot of travellers make is to skip on travel insurance, which costs just a tiny fraction of their holiday,” he said.
He added that travellers should not wait until flights are delayed or cancelled, luggage is lost, connections are missed, or bookings lapse before protecting their travels.
Aside from travel delays in Malaysia, Asia is facing significant gaps in travel insurance uptake among Millennials and Gen Z travellers.
A recent survey by Klook Protect, an insurance subsidiary of the travel platform Klook, revealed that younger travellers face evolving travel risks, yet often lack the coverage to address these effectively.
The study showed that many travellers view traditional travel insurance options as inadequate for modern travel demands. About 21% of respondents said they are seeking alternatives, and 34.1% expressed a desire for a more engaging and simplified purchasing process.
Many travellers also expressed frustration with the claims process, with 25% citing claim filing complexities, 22% indicating difficulty understanding policy details, and 20% pointing to long processing times.
