AIA Singapore has announced the appointment of Afees Ashroff as its new chief technology officer, effective immediately.
In his new role, Ashroff will report to Wong Sze Keed, chief executive officer of AIA Singapore.
Ashroff, who has over two decades of experience in the banking and insurance industries, joined AIA Singapore in 2018. He previously held the position of head of digital technology.
As chief technology officer, he will focus on advancing customer digital experiences through innovative technology strategies.
Wong expressed confidence in Ashroff’s ability to lead the company’s digital transformation initiatives.
“I am delighted to welcome Afees to the leadership team as chief technology officer. I am confident that Afees will be a strong addition to my management team and will continue to drive AIA Singapore’s digitalisation agenda across our organisation to deliver the best service experience for our customers. More importantly, with Afees’ appointment, AIA Singapore remains committed to our people-first culture, where talent development and internal mobility will ensure we give the best opportunities to our people,” she said.
Ashroff takes over from Peter Lee, who is stepping down to focus on personal matters.
Wong acknowledged Lee’s contributions, noting his respected status in the industry and wishing him well in his future endeavours.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Peter and his efforts in steering the team. Peter is a highly respected industry veteran and will be fondly remembered for his positive influence in creating a cohesive culture within the technology division, and we wish him all the very best in his future endeavours,” she said.
The appointment follows the launch of AIA Singapore’s wealth strategy, AIA Wealth Centre.
The initiative aims to position the company as a leader in the wealth management sector across Asia. It seeks to tap into the projected growth of the region’s affluent population, which is expected to increase by 61%, from 17.5 million in 2021 to 28.2 million by 2026.
The AIA Wealth Centre, located at Six Battery Road in Singapore, is an exclusive, invitation-only facility designed to serve affluent and high-net-worth clients. It offers access to a multidisciplinary team of experts, including legal, tax, and trust advisors, providing comprehensive financial solutions.
