A group of volunteers from
Manulife Hong Kong recently visited children at Prince of Wales Hospital to brighten their day and spread holiday cheer.
Joining the employees was a man dressed as Santa Claus, who helped host a party filled with fun-filled activities for the young patients. To entertain the children, the volunteers held an interactive magic show, led singing of Christmas carols, and distributed gifts.
According to Manulife, the visit was heart-warming and that it hoped that it was able to bring happiness to the children during the holiday season.
“You could tell from the looks of delight on their faces that all thoughts of feeling unwell had been, at least temporarily, banished,” volunteer Lillian Wat told South China Morning Post.
Manulife is one of the sponsors of Operation Santa Claus, an annual charity initiative organised by SCMP and Radio TV Hong Kong. This is the insurer’s 14th year supporting the program.
This year, Manulife chose Playright Children’s Play Association as its beneficiary. Playright helps children psychologically prepare for medical procedures or surgery through play-oriented activities.
The insurer is donating HKD300,000 to the organisation to support its activities, which help around 3,000 children across Hong Kong.
“A major pillar of our corporate social responsibility commitment to the community ... is to cater for the health and well-being of children,” said Guy Mills, CEO of Manulife Hong Kong. “They are our future and every one of them is precious to us.”
