TT Club, a global freight insurance provider, has announced a change in leadership at its Singapore branch, marking the retirement of Yiah Soon (YS) Ng.

Kamel Tlili (pictured), who has been serving as the club’s regional general manager for Asia-Pacific, has taken over as chief executive of the Singapore branch as of September 2024.

Ng, who has been with Thomas Miller’s Singapore operations since 1997, began his career as a claims manager for TT Club and the UK P&I Club.

He assumed the role of general manager in 2009 and became chief executive for TT Club’s Singapore branch in 2017. His tenure saw him manage both the UK P&I Club and TT Club’s operations in the region.

Commenting on Ng’s retirement, Tlili said: “YS has been instrumental in leading the club’s operations in Singapore, and I am grateful to have had his support during my first year at TT Club.”

Tlili joined TT Club in 2023, bringing over 20 years of experience in marine mutual insurance and underwriting, including leadership roles at the UK P&I Club and British Marine under QBE.

In his new role, Tlili will oversee Singapore operations while continuing to lead the club’s Asia-Pacific regional initiatives.

Commenting on the leadership change, TT Club CEO Kevin King said Tlili’s contributions since rejoining Thomas Miller have already strengthened the club’s presence in Singapore and across South East Asia.

“In the brief time since returning to Thomas Miller, Kamel has already made great headway in expanding the club’s reach in the Singapore and wider South East Asian markets, ensuring the club’s members and the broader insurance market know that TT is committed to providing unparalleled local support and coverage,” he said.

Tlili expressed plans to build on the foundation established by Ng.

“Singapore is a critical hub for the South East Asian market, and it is fitting for TT to further consolidate a strong presence for its local membership. I look forward to leading this effort,” he said.

Veteran risk manager retires from TT Club

Aside from Ng, Peregrine Storrs-Fox – who has led risk management efforts at TT Club for decades – has stepped down from his role as director.

Storrs-Fox, who joined the organisation 40 years ago as a claims handler, will remain connected with TT Club as a consultant, focusing on global safety standards in freight and logistics.

He played a leading role in developing the club’s loss prevention programs, addressing risks such as improper cargo handling and container safety. His advocacy for better management of hazardous materials has influenced international guidelines, including the International Maritime Organization’s Verified Gross Mass (VGM) standards.
