Manulife Hong Kong has entered into a strategic collaboration with New Frontier Group, a healthcare provider in Greater China, to enhance its healthcare services for customers who require access to medical care in mainland China.

The partnership, conducted through New Frontier’s subsidiary Prosper Health, introduces a cashless payment system for eligible policyholders, streamlining medical expenses for treatments conducted within the network.

This initiative reflects the growing demand for integrated cross-border healthcare solutions, especially among Hong Kong residents who seek treatment options across the border. It also aligns with Manulife’s efforts to broaden its services within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), focusing on medical management, cancer treatment, and preventive care.

Cashless services for eligible customers

Manulife’s new offering includes cashless settlement for day-case surgeries at United Family Hospitals and inpatient procedures within Prosper Health’s mainland China medical network.

Customers can also access chemotherapy and radiotherapy at United Family Hospitals, with the insurer settling pre-approved costs directly with Prosper Health, provided that pre-authorisation is obtained before treatment.

This system aims to reduce the financial and administrative burden on customers, enabling them to focus on their medical needs.

Patrick Graham (pictured left), CEO of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau, said integrating Manulife’s insurance expertise with New Frontier Group’s extensive medical network expands access to quality healthcare across the region.

“By combining our insurance expertise with New Frontier Group's extensive medical network in mainland China, we are uniquely positioned to offer Hong Kong customers access to high-quality cross-border medical care, furthering our commitment to protecting the health and well-being of our customers,” he said.

Antony Leung (pictured right), group chairman of New Frontier Group, said the collaboration would create more integrated and seamless medical solutions for cross-border clients.

“This is not only a breakthrough in our partnership but also an important demonstration of our joint efforts to create value for society,” he said.

Enhanced support for cancer patients

The partnership also focuses on improving cancer care for eligible customers. Manulife will offer expedited appointment scheduling for outpatient cancer treatment at United Family Hospitals in key cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.

Customers will have access to a one-time independent consultation, providing a second opinion on cancer diagnoses to help them make informed decisions.

To further enhance the experience, Manulife will provide door-to-door limousine service for customers traveling to Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital for outpatient cancer treatment, ensuring a convenient journey.

Carrie Tong, chief operations officer of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau, said that the initiative is designed to simplify the treatment journey for customers by addressing their medical and logistical needs.

“Our initiative alleviates the complexities of cross-border medical treatment, enabling customers to focus entirely on their health and well-being, with the assurance that every detail of their medical and travel needs is managed with the utmost care and consideration,” she said.

Value-added medical services

In addition to cancer care, the partnership introduces several other healthcare benefits for eligible customers at Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital. These include discounted rates on health check-ups, postpartum care, and dental services, as well as access to specialized ward benefits.

The collaboration builds on Manulife’s existing initiatives in the region, such as its 2022 partnership with HEAL Medical, another New Frontier Group subsidiary. That agreement made HEAL Medical the first designated medical centre in Manulife’s GBA Medical Hub.
