AIA Singapore has announced a significant update to its corporate insurance policies, set to take effect in 2025.
This initiative includes extended mental health coverage, making it the first insurer in Singapore to introduce inpatient mental health care as part of its Group Hospital & Surgical Insurance (GHS).
These enhancements will benefit more than 1.3 million employees insured through AIA’s corporate plans, representing roughly one-third of Singapore’s workforce.
This new coverage reflects AIA Singapore’s response to the rising demand for mental wellness support in the workplace.
Recent data shows that 59% of Singaporean consumers feel they require more mental health resources, with cost, accessibility, and workplace initiatives being key concerns. Nearly half of Singapore’s population reports experiencing mental health challenges, and businesses have seen productivity losses of up to 40% due to these issues.

AIA Singapore’s chief corporate solutions officer, Kenneth Tan, stated that employers have a growing responsibility to support mental well-being alongside physical health. He pointed out that the average full-time employee in Singapore works over 40 hours per week, underscoring the need for comprehensive benefits that address both physical and mental health.
“Recognising this, AIA Singapore is dedicated to partnering businesses by offering comprehensive and flexible benefits that prioritise their employees’ well-being,” he said.
Among the forthcoming enhancements, the insurer will cover the cost of inpatient mental health care under existing plans, with no increases in premiums. The coverage aims to remove financial barriers and encourage employees to seek timely treatment.
Other key changes include increased age limits for older workers, mobile inpatient care options, enhanced outpatient accident and emergency coverage at government hospitals, and expanded access to paediatric care for children aged 7 to 12 without needing a referral.
In addition to mental health care, AIA Singapore is offering tools to assist employees in planning for future medical and legal needs.
Through a collaboration with WhiteCoat, the insurer will provide employees with access to “Plan Ahead Services” (PAS), which helps simplify the process of preparing legal documents, such as Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) and Advance Medical Directive (AMD). This service aims to ease the planning of future care, reducing potential burdens on employees and their families.
These updates come as AIA Singapore continues to align its offerings with the government’s national focus on mental health.
The company has long been an advocate for mental wellness in the workplace, having introduced mental health coverage as part of its AIA Beyond Critical Care plan in 2019.
The insurer is also a partner in the WorkWell Leaders Programme, a network of business leaders committed to prioritising mental health at work.
Furthermore, AIA Singapore’s “Think Well” program, launched in 2023, offers digital mental health services through its partnership with WhiteCoat. This initiative provides access to mental health consultations via text, video, or in-person meetings and is integrated into the AIA eBenefits app.
As businesses adapt to the changing needs of their employees, AIA Singapore said it is focused on creating insurance solutions that address physical, mental, social, and financial well-being. The 2025 policy enhancements reflect this commitment, ensuring that both employees and employers are better equipped to manage health and wellness challenges in the workplace.
