Zurich Insurance Hong Kong has entered a partnership with Negawatt Utility Limited and Cornerstone Technologies to promote environmental sustainability in Hong Kong.
The collaboration focuses on creating a community-driven green ecosystem, with initiatives designed to encourage eco-friendly practices, carbon reduction, and broader adoption of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
This partnership is part of Zurich’s broader commitment to sustainability. The insurer, which aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030, integrates ESG considerations into its operations and offerings.
The collaboration combines Negawatt’s ZERO2 app, an ESG rewards platform, and Cornerstone Technologies’ electric vehicle (EV) charging network to support environmentally conscious behaviours.
The ZERO2 app incentivises actions such as recycling, energy conservation, and EV charging by awarding users redeemable points. Participants can earn rewards, including discounts on Zurich insurance products while helping to reduce carbon emissions.
Cornerstone Technologies brings its EV charging infrastructure to the partnership, aiming to accelerate the transition to green transport. Zurich complements these efforts with insurance solutions that integrate sustainability features, such as discounts linked to EV-related activities.
Eric Hui, CEO of Zurich Insurance Hong Kong, commented that the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to driving sustainability at the community level.
“We are excited to partner with Negawatt and Cornerstone Technologies to create a green lifestyle community that inspires individuals to develop environmentally friendly habits in their daily lives and seamlessly integrate environmental stewardship into their routines,” he said.
Zurich is promoting the initiative through the launch of the ZURICH COMMUNITY feature within the ZERO2 app, where users can find ESG updates and exclusive offers.
As part of a welcome campaign running until Jan. 30, 2025, participants can access various rewards:
A carbon reduction leaderboard, set to launch in December 2024, will recognise the most active contributors to carbon reduction. Top performers will receive additional rewards, such as Cornerstone charging credits.
Negawatt CEO Arthur Lam (pictured second from left) noted that the ZERO2 app not only encourages individual participation in ESG activities but also provides businesses with transparent and measurable data to meet ESG reporting requirements.
“We believe that data transparency and reporting accuracy are essential for driving change and improving governance in the ESG field,” he said.
Vincent Yip (pictured second from right), CEO of Cornerstone Technologies, emphasised the importance of ESG in business strategy.
“Through this collaboration, we will leverage our competitive edge to propel carbon reduction efforts and spur public adoption of sustainable practices,” he said.
Cyberport, a digital innovation hub in Hong Kong, expressed its support for the collaboration.
Eric Chan, its chief public mission officer, noted that the partnership aligns with Hong Kong’s smart city development goals and fosters innovation among start-ups.
“We are thrilled to facilitate the collaboration between Zurich Insurance, Negawatt, and Cornerstone Technologies, marking a pivotal advancement toward achieving smart living solutions aligned with ESG principles,” he said.
Zurich’s local efforts complement its global initiatives, including the recent transition of its Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance to the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance.
This global program, supported by Zurich Insurance Group and the Z Zurich Foundation, addresses a range of climate-related risks and aims to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities.
