Allianz Commercial has announced a key appointment to its global leadership team, effective immediately, as Vanessa Maxwell (pictured above) has been named global head of cyber, in addition to her current role as global head of financial lines.

Maxwell, who has over 20 years of experience in financial lines and cyber, joined Allianz Commercial as global head of financial lines nearly two years ago from Berkshire Hathaway.

Maxwell’s career history includes positions at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance as country manager, UK, and head of executive and professional lines - UK.

Prior to this, she also held roles at AIG, including head of PI/Cyber UK, underwriting manager, and assistant professional liability manager. She began her career as a production specialist at AIG.

Allianz also announced that Maxwell’s predecessor, Scott Sayce, has transitioned to a new role outside Allianz in June.

In her new role, Maxwell will lead Allianz Commercial's efforts to strengthen its position in both cyber and financial lines, leveraging her extensive experience in the sector. She will report to Shanil Williams, chief underwriting officer at Allianz Commercial.

“A huge thank you to Vanessa Maxwell for taking her newly created role as global head of cyber and financial lines. I have every confidence that she, and the cyber leadership team will continue to build our presence in this area, in line with our ambitions of market leadership,” Williams said.

“I would like to thank Scott Sayce for the highly professional steering of cyber under his leadership. During his time with us, he established cyber as a strong presence within our book, growing it significantly and moving it to become a stand-alone line of business,” Williams said.

Elsewhere in appointments for the global firm, Allianz Partners has also promoted Ariane Koelbli to global head of people & culture.

In her new role, Koelbli is charged with the development and execution of Allianz Partners’ global HR strategy, focusing on nurturing the company’s culture, fostering talent development, and overseeing change management to align with the organization’s expansion goals.
