Sompo has announced the appointment of Pablo Diago as chief claims officer for its commercial and consumer insurance businesses in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Effective immediately, the move is part of the company’s focus on strengthening claims management and service delivery in the region.

In this expanded role, Diago (pictured) will lead claims operations for both commercial and consumer insurance lines, focusing on operational improvements, service consistency, and developing team capabilities.

He will report directly to Kenneth Reilly, CEO of insurance, APAC, and will join Sompo’s APAC executive leadership team based in Singapore.

Reilly said Diago has been pivotal in driving Sompo’s operational strategy despite only joining the company a year ago.

“With his technical expertise and deep understanding of APAC’s risk environment, I am confident that Pablo will lead the region’s claims team through enhanced processes to ensure operational and service efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.

Diago brings over a decade of experience in the insurance industry across Asia. Before joining Sompo, he worked as a senior associate at Deloitte and transitioned into insurance roles. He holds a law degree from University Carlos III of Madrid in Spain.

The announcement of Diago’s new role follows the appointment of Maya Dongyoung Lee as Sompo’s new chief operating officer for the APAC region.

Lee is responsible for overseeing operations, driving transformation projects, and strengthening process governance to enhance the company’s regional capabilities. She reports to both Reilly and Daniel Englberger, chief operating officer of Sompo International Holdings. She also joins Sompo’s APAC executive leadership team and operates out of Singapore.

Reilly highlighted Lee’s wealth of global experience both from a consulting and insurance industry perspective.

“She brings with her a wealth of global experience both from a consulting and insurance industry perspective. I am confident Maya will drive operational effectiveness and excellence, as well as process architecture governance across our entire APAC business,” he said.

Englberger added that Lee’s exceptional track record for leading organisational change at several global businesses makes her perfectly placed to develop and execute the next stage of the operations and transformation strategy in the APAC region.

Lee has a background in consulting and insurance, with leadership roles at Manulife, PwC, and MetLife, where she managed various transformation initiatives. She earned her MBA from Yonsei University in South Korea.
