The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has announced the addition of
Zurich Insurance, represented by its arms
Zurich Insurance Malaysia Bhd (ZIMB) and
Zurich Takaful Malaysia Bhd (ZTMB), as a corporate social responsibility partner of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2017.
The RWMF, a three-day music festival in Kuching, Malaysia that celebrates the diversity of world music, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has added a secondary aim to promote health and wellness through physical activity and meditation.
In a ceremonial cheque presentation on Wednesday, attended by ZIMB chief executive officer Philip Smith and Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Zurich donated MYR200,000 (US$46,900) to support the music festival.
Zurich Malaysia has an ongoing CSR programme titled “Eat Right to Play Right”, which promotes football as a platform to instil self-discipline and sportsmanship, as well as teach about proper nutrition.
Smith said that he is delighted that Zurich can be part of the festival, especially for its 20th anniversary. He added that Sarawak is the region with the second highest insurance penetration for Zurich, after Negeri Sembilan.
“We came across the Rainforest World Music Festival opportunity relatively recently,” Smith said.
“This looks like one of the things that we want to get engaged in because the festival is very important to the community.”
