Hong Kong's young travelers are increasingly seeking adventurous experiences, though many overlook the importance of travel protection.
A recent survey by Blue Cross (Asia-Pacific) Insurance Limited has revealed that 74% of respondents are eager for unique adventures. However, one-third admit to skipping travel insurance. Of these, 42% considered insurance unnecessary, despite 71% expressing concerns about flight delays or cancellations, and 50% fretting over lost luggage.
Bonnie Tse, CEO of Blue Cross, expressed concern over the young generation's risk management.
"They are fearless, innovative and willing to take on challenges,” Tse said. “However, their lack of protection awareness is concerning. In addition to common travel disruptions such as flight delays and lost luggage, comprehensive travel insurance provides crucial protection and mitigates the risks against accidents, injuries, and illness during the journey."
In fact, 69% plan multiple trips yearly, with 22% traveling three or more times. Adventures in less-known locales are favoured by 32%, and 58% prefer spontaneous journeys triggered by affordable flights.
On the other hand, 66% of respondents would purchase travel insurance to protect themselves and their families.
"We hope to inspire the new generation to balance living fully with protecting themselves and their families," Tse said, emphasizing that understanding risk management becomes increasingly important.
The company has seen a 108% increase in policyholders aged 18-29 and a 150% jump in the 18-22 age group.
