Sun Life Financial has announced that a member of its Board of Directors is stepping down.
Greig Woodring has resigned from the company’s board, effective May 30, 2017. He has resigned due to “personal reasons,” a release said, and his resignation has been accepted by the rest of the board of directors.
As a member of Sun Life’s board of directors, Woodring served on the Risk Review Committee and Management Resources Committee.
Woodring was previously appointed to the board last December. He has four decades of US and international insurance industry experience. He is also the CEO of Reinsurance Group of America (RGA).
He started his insurance career at Chicago-based United Insurance Company and then later joined General American Life Insurance Company (currently GenAmerica Financial) in 1979 as executive vice-president of the latter’s reinsurance business. It was Woodring’s reinsurance division that led to the creation of RGA, with him leading its initial public offering in 1993 and serving as the company’s first CEO.
