Tokio Millennium Re (TMR), the reinsurance arm of Japan’s Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., has appointed Brian Secrett as its chief underwriting officer, effective October 01, 2017. He will also be a member of the reinsurer’s executive committee.

As chief underwriting officer, Secrett will be based in London and head the underwriting and pricing activities of TMR, focusing on risk selection process and controls. This new role seeks to strengthen TMR’s focus on analytics to improve underwriting results and serve its clients better.

With almost 30 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting, Secrett joins TMR from Lloyd’s where he held the roles of head of class of business and interim head of underwriting performance. He began his reinsurance career in 1989 as property treaty underwriter at Swiss Re UK, before joining PartnerRe and holding various positions, most recent of which was head of the catastrophe business unit.

Stephen Ruoff, CEO of Tokio Millennium Re, commented: “We are very pleased that Brian will step into this new CUO position at TMR.”

He added: “Brian’s expertise in underwriting, pricing and risk analytics combined with his long term experience of building balanced underwriting portfolios, equips him perfectly for his new role at TMR.”
