Starr Insurance has named Sean Chen (pictured) as the CEO of Starr International Insurance (Singapore) effective from Aug. 28. With a tenure of 14 years within Starr's global team, the insurer cites Chen's extensive experience in making him a valued addition to the role.
Chen's most recent position was as Starr's regional manager responsible for Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, specifically overseeing property, energy, and construction. According to LinkedIn, he held the position of senior property underwriter at Starr's Hong Kong office. Having accumulated over 25 years in underwriting and client relationship roles, both on the insurance carrier and broker sides of the industry, Chen brings with him a wealth of knowledge to his new position.
Starr Insurance chairman and CEO Maurice R. Greenberg expressed his confidence in Chen's capabilities, highlighting his substantial underwriting expertise that will aid in the company's expansion efforts in Asia.
“Sean’s advancement underscores Starr’s strength as a place where people can thrive along with the company,” Greenberg said.
Chen takes over the CEO role from Phil Finley, who has transitioned to lead Starr International Insurance (Thailand) as CEO in Thailand. In his new capacity, Finley will oversee the expansion of this significant new venture for Starr. Additionally, Finley will continue to guide Starr's Asia operations in his role as president for APAC.
Earlier this year, the Singapore division also announced a major expansion through a new branch in Malaysia, aiming to enhance its (re)insurance product offerings for policyholders and cedants in the country.
