Sompo’s risk engineering department has launched a work injury risk survey, which aims to help client firms identify potential exposures in employee safety.

The service, which is offered out of Sompo’s Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Singapore, is targeted at Japanese corporate clients in the manufacturing industry, a statement said.

Coming in addition to the company’s fire and property risk surveys, the work injury risk survey will focus mainly on machinery operation risks. Sompo’s risk engineers will advise on relevant safety measures, such as safeguards and personal protective equipment, in the post-survey reports after assessing the operating risk of the machines and adequacy of the countermeasures. Work injuries have numerous impacts on businesses, including manpower shortage and legal liabilities.

Sompo said that the survey will check clients’ current working condition with a “fresh pair of eyes”, and provide recommendations to prevent work injury and enhance work safety and efficiency.

“The new work injury risk survey is able to mitigate the risk of industrial accidents by recommending the necessary preventive measures,” said Yasuhiro Sasanuma, chief operating officer of Sompo Asia-Pacific. “Sompo Group also provides assessment in other aspects, such as human issue, poor management, and working conditions upon clients’ requests.”

The survey costs SG$1,000 per client and will take half a day to complete, according to Sompo.
