Singapore telecommunications provider Singtel and
AXA Insurance have jointly released a telematics service to promote safer driving among motorists, along with a campaign to find the “safest driver in Singapore”.
The service is composed of a Modus smart car device and a cloud-based smart car application, which analyses driving patterns through a device connected to the vehicle’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) port.
After a free on-site installation, the Modus device will synchronise the smart car application on customers’ smartphones over Singtel’s mobile network. The program will provide the driver with data on various driving aspects such as braking, acceleration, and top speed. Provided with the data, drivers can modify their driving behaviour to reduce fuel consumption and troubleshoot potential engine problems.
Along with the launch of the service, AXA and Singtel will award SGD5,000 worth of motor insurance to the safest driver in Singapore. To qualify for the competition, drivers must activate the telematics solution and drive at least 3,000 kilometres during the contest period. The driver with the highest driving score will be declared the campaign’s winner.
