Singapore Life founder and chief executive Walter de Oude (pictured) has been awarded ‘Outstanding CEO of the Year 2018’ at the Influential Brands 2018 CEO Asia Summit.
De Oude was among those selected from a pool of 380 C-suite leaders across the region. He was recognised for starting Singapore Life, a digital-first insurance and wealth management firm.
“As a digital insurer and wealth manager, Singapore Life’s vision is to change the way people look at growing their cash savings and ensuring a financially-secured retirement,” de Oude said. “Singapore Life builds itself as an efficient company that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology capabilities via a swathe of consumer-centric wealth products so that customers may live their best lives possible.”
Prior to founding Singapore Life in 2014, de Oude was CEO of HSBC Insurance Singapore from 2010 to 2014. He previously served as the company’s deputy CEO and chief actuary.
According to a statement by Singapore Life, the strength of Singapore’s regulatory environment allows for a safe and sound space for wealth planning. The firm was borne out of a need for insurance and wealth solutions that incorporate technology, driven by growing population and affluence in Southeast Asia.
Earlier this year, Singapore Life gained control of Zurich Life Singapore’s insurance portfolio, consisting of SG$6 billion of coverage in life, critical illness, and disability insurance policies.
