QBE Insurance, an international insurer and reinsurer with a number of offices across the UK, has appointed a global chief information officer, it announced today.
Markus Nordlin takes on the newly-created role, heading up IT strategies across the 37 countries in which the insurer operates.
Nordlin will serve as a member of the global operations leadership team for QBE, which is headquartered in Sydney, Australia, which the company says will help align the IT function with business needs and expectations throughout the group.
Nordlin, who will be based in New York City, USA, has more than 20 years’ experience in information technology leadership, including 16 years serving in senior roles at
Zurich Insurance – most recently as chief information and technology officer (CITO).
As CITO, Nordlin – who worked for Zurich in both Switzerland and the United States – was responsible for leading the insurer’s global IT services across 170 countries, which comprised more than 8,000 IT employees and contractors.
Colin Fagen, group chief operations officer, said the appointment is central to QBE’s plans to “create a united IT strategy” across the company, which aims to simplify technology architecture and drive innovation and change.
“Markus has expertise in driving major infrastructure consolidation and operational excellence as well as new customer-focused digital platforms,” Fagen said.
“I look forward to Markus creating further competitive advantage for QBE through efficiency gains and innovation in IT.”
