Munich Re has a new boss for its Southeast Asian operations, with Linus Phoon’s appointment as CEO for Singapore and Southeast Asia, effective May 02.
Phoon (pictured) will lead Munich Re’s reinsurance businesses in Singapore and Southeast Asia, providing clients with traditional reinsurance and complex risk solutions, as well as comprehensive consulting services. He is based in the Lion City and reports to Roland Eckl, Munich Re chief executive, Asia-Pacific (Japan, India, Korea, and Southeast Asia).
“We’re pleased to welcome Linus to this new leadership role,” said Eckl. “His deep reinsurance expertise and experience of managing operations and client relationships across the Asia region are important assets that will help us grow our business in Southeast Asia, and continue to partner with our clients across the industry.”
Phoon brings with him over 20 years of reinsurance experience, gained at leading reinsurance firms including General and Cologne Re, St Paul Re, and Converium, where he was responsible for underwriting and overseeing non-life reinsurance businesses across various Asian markets.
He joins Munich Re from Canopius, where he was CEO for reinsurance in Asia, a role he held since 2008. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, with honours, from the National University of Singapore.
