Green is currently Manulife’s chief strategy and transformation officer for Asia and a member of its Asia division executive committee. In his new role, he will continue to report to Manulife Asia CEO Anil Wadhwani.
“Hong Kong is one of Manulife’s most important and successful markets,” said Wadhwani. “This is a great opportunity for Damien to drive our ambition to become the most digital, customer-centric global company in our industry. I am confident we will continue to see the business flourish even further under his leadership.”
Green joined Manulife in December 2018 in his current capacity, according to the company’s statement. In the past year, he has focused on a wide range of areas including supporting the development of new business strategies for the Japan and Hong Kong businesses, along with the establishment of a new execution and governance framework to accelerate the company’s customer experience and digital transformation.
Previously, Green led MetLife’s businesses in Korea and Australia and AIA’s business in Australia. He has also held a number of regional executive positions across multiple Asian markets and industry segments including life, pensions and employee benefits. In total, he has almost 20 years of leadership experience within the insurance industry across Asia-Pacific including in Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Australia.
The new appointment follows the recent announcement by current CEO Guy Mills of his retirement from the role at the end of 2019. Mills will become chairman of the board to Manulife (International) Limited and senior advisor to Wadhwani.
