Hartwig Löger, chief executive of insurer UNIQA Austria, has been named as the country’s next finance minister.

The new Chancellor of Austria, 31-year-old Sebastian Kurz of the People’s Party, announced his party’s ministers over the weekend. The BBC reported a coalition government agreed between Kurz’s Conservative Party and the far-right Freedom Party.

Löger, an industry veteran with more than three decades of experience, worked for the likes of Aon and Allianz during the early years of his career. Born in 1965, he graduated from the International Management programme at the University of St. Gallen.

The new finance minister, who has been chairman of UNIQA Austria’s management board since 2011, is set to assume his new role today.
