Girnar Software, an India-based firm that owns automotive classified sites such as CarDekho, ZigWheels and Gaadi.com, has been awarded a licence to operate a motor insurance brokerage by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
Girnar Insurance Brokers will release a mobile app that will seek to understand users’ risk profiles and then help select the right motor insurance policy for them. It will also have a 24/7 helpdesk to educate consumers about motor insurance and assist them with the application process.
For this endeavour, the company has partnered with several leading insurers such as HDFC Ergo, Royal Sundaram, IFFCO Tokio General Insurance, New India General Assurance, and Universal
Sompo.

In May 2016, Girnar acquired roadside assistance service provider Help On Wheels as part of its push to offer a complete services for its clients. Many motor insurers have roadside assistance services bundled or offered as an add-on with their products.
“We want to build the platform and stabilise it for the next six-12 months. After that, we will focus more on business strategy. Right now, the whole focus is on building customer experience and making the platform seamless,” Ankur Agarwal, Girnar Software’s CEO for its car owners vertical, told VCCircle.
Agarwal added that the company is also looking to expand its insurance offering in the future by adding travel and health insurance products.
