Income Insurance has announced the launch of its insurance policy FlexiTravel Plus, which is the first travel insurance in Singapore that allows travellers to extend their travel protection as needed to about 19 destinations in Asia.

The new policy served as a replacement for the FlexiTravel Hourly Insurance policy, which only covered travellers to Bintan, Batam, and Malaysia. With an expansion in its offerings, it aims to give travellers greater flexibility and value-added benefits to their policies.

“Overseas travel has its risks. Travellers may sometimes forget to purchase travel insurance for their trips given their busy lifestyle, while some may not regard conventional travel protection necessary especially when they are going for a short getaway,” said  Annie Chua, Income Insurance vice president and head of key accounts management.

“We aim to bridge these gaps by offering travel insurance options that are tailored for modern travel patterns and prevalent concerns so that travellers mindfully close their protection gaps and enjoy peace of mind.”

The new insurance policy has enhanced the benefits that it offered with the inclusion of coverages for trip disruption, travel delays and alterations, overbooked public transport, insolvency of travel agency, loss of handphones and electronic devices because of robbery and snatch theft, overseas medical expenses, and emergency medical evacuation.

Travellers will also be able to activate, extend, and stop their coverage any time they like through the My Income mobile app. The coverage also has a post-departure purchase feature that allows travellers to purchase the policy for their short trips within eight hours after leaving Singapore for at least 24 hours.

There is also a new overseas telemedicine benefit that allows policyholders to have access to a medical practitioner from a medical provider appointed by the insurer through an overseas emergency hotline. For non-emergency cases, the doctor will be able to give guidance in purchasing medicines as well as translating services for local pharmacies, which will help ensure that travellers in need of medical advice can receive it even when they are outside the country.

“We recognise that travellers have diverse travel needs. Hence, it is important that we engage with customers regularly, keep an open mind and stay innovative with our insurance offerings,” said Chua.

“This ensures that we stay true to delivering positive social impact by being a purpose-driven insurer who sustainably offers insurance options that address real-world protection needs to people in Singapore.”
