Peak Reinsurance Company (Peak Re) has appointed Clarence Wong (pictured) as chief economist, effective November 16.
Wong will report directly to Peak Re CEO Franz Josef Hahn, and will be in charge of providing strategic insights on economic, insurance and emerging risks to the company and its key stakeholders, a statement from the Hong Kong-headquartered reinsurer said. He will also oversee the development of thought leadership content for Peak Re.
Most recently, Wong was chief economist for Swiss Re, which he joined in 1999. Earlier in his career, he spent nine years at HSBC’s economic research department.
According to Peak Re, the move highlights the company’s commitment to strengthen its service in Asia and around the globe.
“We are delighted to welcome Clarence on board, as we look to provide stronger analysis and insights for our key stakeholders,” said Hahn regarding Wong’s appointment.
“While Asia’s insurance landscape continues to grow and evolve, it is important for us to understand the strategic implications of economic environments in which we operate and make better decisions by understanding the impact of our choices.
“I am confident that Clarence will be a significant addition to our team, particularly with his wealth of knowledge and expertise in the global reinsurance markets.”
