The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former department head of an unnamed insurance company under allegations of bribery.
The arrest, made in Kuala Lumpur, involves claims of soliciting and accepting bribes totaling approximately RM500,000.
According to a report from the FMT, the individual, a woman in her 30s, was detained following her statement to the MACC. It is alleged that the bribes were sought in return for her recommendation in awarding contracts to three different companies. These companies were involved in providing training and consultancy services to the insurance firm where she was employed.
The suspect was presented before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed issued an order for a seven-day remand, effective until Jan. 16, to facilitate further investigation into the matter.
Fauzi Husin, the MACC director in Kuala Lumpur, confirmed the arrest. He stated that the case is being pursued under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with offences related to the solicitation and acceptance of bribes by individuals in positions of authority or influence.
