Etiqa Insurance Singapore has expanded its personal accident coverage for foreign domestic workers, as one of first companies to make change in line with Government order.
In response to the Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) amended guidelines for foreign domestic workers the insurer has amended its domestic worker plan “ePROTECT maid”.
According to the insurer, it will keep the same premium rates even if it increases the personal accident coverage from SGD40,000 to SGD60,000 for accidental death or permanent disablement. Additionally, there are coverages of up to SGD2,500 for medical expenses and SGD15,000 annually for hospitalisation and surgical costs.
“We are one of the first few players in the industry that provide increased insurance coverage for maids before the changes to MOM's guidelines,” said Sue Chi Kong, CEO of Etiqa Insurance.
“By implementing the changes earlier, our customers can benefit from increased coverage, without having to pay additional premiums.”
Insurers provide varying coverages for personal accident insurance, some having narrower definition of accidents and having more exclusions. The MOM’s guidelines require personal accident insurance to cover all sudden, unforeseen and unexpected incidents that result in the death or permanent disability of the foreign domestic worker.
