Canopius Group, a Sydney-based global specialty (re)insurer, has announced the appointment of Robert Barnum as an underwriter for professional lines for Australia and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. According to a news release, this appointment is aligned with Canopius' commitment to expanding its footprint in the APAC region as well as with its intention to grow its professional lines business.
Barnum brings to the role over 10 years of experience in professional lines. He previously served as head of professional lines and cyber Asia-Pacific at Axis Capital in Singapore. Prior to this, he held similar roles at AXA XL and Lloyd’s Syndicate Catlin in Australia.
In his new role, Barnum will aid the growth of the company's expansion in the region, starting with establishing a Professional Lines practice across the APAC region. He will be focusing on the open market professional indemnity and coverholder business in Australia, working in close collaboration with the casualty team, according to a news release.
