Cage fighter lets insurance claim go as insurer prepares video

An Irish MMA fighter who claims he suffered “severe” personal injury following a car accident has withdrawn from a legal dispute over the damages after an insurer prepared a video proving he wasn’t in an injured condition.

David Roche – a cage fighter who has trained with Conor McGregor’s coach – asserted that he had suffered injuries from an accident sometime in January 2015. According to him, he was in his parked automobile in the car park of Blanchardstown Shopping Centre in Dublin when he was suddenly hit by a female driver in another car.

Roche claimed that the accident caused him “severe injury, loss, damage and expense.”

Uduak Madudu, the driver who hit Roche, was insured by AXA. Madudu’s counsel, John Martin, told the court that the defendant was consenting to Roche withdrawing his €60,000 damages claim against her.

AXA was prepared for Roche’s case, and had planned to show in court a video of the fighter in an MMA bout despite his claims of injuries.

Independent.ie reported that Roche’s solicitor, David Walley, did not respond to questions about why the case was withdrawn and whether the case was withdrawn due to the video AXA had prepared.

This is not the only case in which Roche had filed for injuries resulting from an accident – the fighter had also entered a legal dispute with another driver (and the driver’s insurer, AIG) over another rear-end collision in 2014.

The claim against AIG had been settled for a minimal amount, which included a contribution towards Roche’s legal costs, Independent.ie reported.
