International re/insurance group
AXIS Capital Holdings has appointed Steve Arora as chief executive officer of AXIS Re, its reinsurance arm.
Arora joins AXIS Re from
Swiss Re, where he spent 18 years in various senior managerial roles, most recently as head of casualty reinsurance. He was also a member of
Swiss Re’s reinsurance executive committee.
Based in
Zurich, Switzerland, Arora will head AXIS Re’s US$2.2 billion reinsurance business and have a seat on the group’s executive committee, reporting to president and chief executive officer Albert Benchimol.
“He is perfectly suited to be CEO of AXIS Re, bringing breadth and depth of experience on a global scale and a client-centric mentality that matches our culture,” Benchimol commented.
Throughout Arora’s extensive career in re/insurance, he has held various positions in major financial hubs, including New York, Munich, London, Tokyo and Zurich. He is experienced in multiple business areas such as finance, risk management, underwriting, sales, and general management.
He is a graduate of the GE Capital Financial Management and Swiss Re Management Development programs and was recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader.
Once Arora’s appointment becomes effective in January, AXIS Re interim CEO Jan Ekberg will resume his previous role as president and chief underwriting officer of AXIS Re Europe.
