Aviva Singlife has appointed Pearlyn Phau Yee Meng (pictured) as executive director and group chief executive officer, effective August 18.
According to a statement by Aviva Singlife, Phau will also act as executive director and CEO of both of the group’s insurers licenced in Singapore – Singlife and Aviva Singapore. The scheme to combine their operations has already received approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and is awaiting approval from the courts, with the process expected to complete later this year.
Upon Phau assuming her new role, Nishit Majmudar, current CEO of Aviva Singapore, will step down from his executive and board roles and become a senior advisor to the board. Meanwhile, Walter de Oude, acting group chief executive officer prior to Phau’s appointment, will continue on the board as deputy chairman of Aviva Singlife Holdings.
Both Majmudar and de Oude will work with Phau to ensure a smooth transition, the company said.
Phau will join from the banking industry, where she is currently group head of consumer products, marketing and ecosystem partnerships at DBS. She has held various senior leadership roles across her over 18-year tenure with DBS.
“We are delighted that we have been able to attract someone of Pearlyn’s calibre to lead our group in Singapore and beyond,” said Ray Ferguson, chairman of Aviva Singlife Holdings.
“Pearlyn brings to Aviva Singlife her deep knowledge across a wide spectrum of financial products and services. She is a strong leader with a digital mindset and a demonstrable track record in transformation strategies and operational execution.”
