AIG has announced the appointment of Chris Colahan as regional president for AIG Asia Pacific. Colahan is replacing the outgoing Steven Barnett, who is leaving to pursue opportunities outside the company. Colahan will join AIG in the second quarter of 2023, reporting to Jon Hancock, CEO of AIG’s international general insurance business.
Colahan has more than 20 years of insurance experience, most recently serving as a president of UK and Europe for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI). Prior to this, he also served as president of BHSI Australasia. Colahan has a degree in law and commerce from Bond University, Australia.
Hancock said that Colahan’s appointment comes with the expectation of business expansion in the Asian region, all made possible with this new leadership.
“We are fortunate to have someone with Chris’ industry experience and vast knowledge of the Asia Pacific marketplace join AIG. Asia Pacific is an important market for our general insurance business, and with Chris’ leadership, we expect to expand our business and capabilities, deepen relationships with distribution partners and clients, and continue to demonstrate our risk management expertise,” Hancock said.
The US-based insurer also recently tapped two new members for its board, with Diana Murphy and Vanessa Wittman serving as independent directors.
