Hong Kong-based insurance firm AIA Group Ltd has announced efforts to make mental health provisions more available in its offerings.

“We also have partnered with some providers for counseling services, and that will come with certain packages and certain products that are available to our customers,” said Melissa Henson, AIA Group chief marketing officer.

“So, it’s something that recently we have been looking to make more and more available, given the increasing concerns and awareness [of this matter].”

AIA Philippines surveyed about a thousand Filipinos and 30% said a healthy mind fits the definition of a healthy life. Fifty-two per cent defined a healthy life as having a healthy body, while 12% mentioned healthy financial habits as their gauge.

AIA Group chief marketing officer Stuart Spencer mentioned seeing a spike in depression and deterioration of mental wellness across Asia.

He also said AIA wants to incorporate benefits to ensure customers get access to mental health professionals. Spencer then touched on the fact that there isn’t enough care available due to stereotypes, stigmas, and taboos.

“You have a supply and a demand issue that’s taking place across the region. What we’re trying to do is help bridge that gap and help,” he said.
