The insurance industry has seen several notable leadership changes recently, with companies making key appointments aimed at strengthening their positions in their respective markets. The following highlights significant promotions and new appointments within Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, Alliant Insurance Services, and Resilience, as they look to enhance their teams and expand their influence.

BHSI announces promotions for Norman and Head

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) recently announced the promotions of Shelley Norman and Brady Head. Norman has been appointed U.S. Executive & Professional (E&P) Lines field leader, while Head will serve as E&P product lead for North America.

“These promotions reflect Shelley and Brady’s exceptional leadership and their impact on our North American E&P Lines business,” said Anthony Tatulli, head of liability, Executive & Professional Lines, North America, BHSI. “They have led our teams in executing strategies that have driven profitable growth, enhanced the customer experience, and strengthened our position as a valued partner to our brokers and customers.”

In her new role, Norman will oversee E&P regional underwriting teams across the U.S. She joined BHSI in 2021 as senior vice president, Management Liability, bringing over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry.

Head, as E&P Product Lead, will be responsible for all of BHSI’s E&P Lines products in North America. He joined BHSI in 2020 as head of Directors & Officers Liability, with more than 30 years of industry experience.

Josh Smith joins Alliant Insurance Services

Josh Smith has joined Alliant Insurance Services as senior vice president and sales director within its Employee Benefits Group. Based in California, Smith will oversee business development activities across the western region, contributing to growth and expanding Alliant’s presence.

“Josh brings nearly 30 years of sales leadership experience and a strong track record of building high-performing teams and driving revenue growth,” said Kevin Overbey, president, Alliant Employee Benefits.

Smith has extensive experience in sales strategy, management, and business development. Most recently, he served as district sales manager for a national professional employer organization, leading sales efforts in the Sacramento area.

Resilience appoints chief underwriting officer

Resilience has appointed Maria Long (pictured) as chief underwriting officer. In this role, Long will oversee all aspects of underwriting for Resilience’s growing portfolio, reporting directly to George Kotsiopoulos, president of Insurance.

“Maria’s track record and experience in cyber risk are difficult to match. She has quickly become an invaluable asset to our organization, earning strong trust from our capacity partners, brokers, and underwriting team—making her the clear choice for Chief Underwriting Officer,” said Kotsiopoulos.

Long brings nearly 10 years of cyber insurance experience to her new role. She previously held leadership positions in cyber underwriting and risk management at Munich Re Specialty, where she led their cyber risk management program, and at Allied World, where she developed a leading cyber risk management platform.
