The Canadian Automobile Association has released this year’s worst roads in Canada, and for once, Dufferin Street in Toronto did not take the top spot in the province..
Algonquin Boulevard in Timmins was awarded the title, putting an end to Dufferin Street’s three-year winning (or, some might say, losing) streak.
"We are pleased to see the City of Toronto has begun road resurfacing along Dufferin Street,” Caroline Grech, government relations, CAA South Central Ontario, said in a statement. Although Dufferin and the City were bumped from the top spot by focused efforts in some communities, just over 300 roads in the City of Toronto were nominated, demonstrating the need for Council to keep infrastructure as a top priority.”
Timmins and the Greater Toronto Area did tie, however, with each containing three of the worst 10 roads in Ontario. Timmins’ mayor thanked residents, who “rallied together” to bring attention to surface road conditions.
The “Top 10” list for Ontario is as follows:
- Algonquin Blvd. W., Timmins
- Algonquin Blvd. E., Timmins
- Dufferin Street, Toronto
- Highway 144, Greater Sudbury
- Carling Ave., Ottawa
- Radical Rd., Port Dover
- Burlington St. E., Hamilton
- Riverside Dr., Timmins
- Dominion Rd., Fort Erie
- Bayview Ave., Toronto
90% of survey respondents cited potholes and crumbling pavement as their consideration when voting, although other frequent concerns include auto congestion, traffic light timing and “pedestrian access.”
