Hampshire-based brokerage Portmore Insurance has marked its 10th anniversary in the business by raising £70,000 for charity.

The broker’s staff recently held a fundraising gala dinner attended by more than 400 people including clients, insurance companies and service providers, the Daily Echo reported.

According to the report, Portmore has been raising cash throughout the year for the Society of St. James, a charity for Hampshire’s homeless people, and for the Lahna Appeal which buys equipment for the Southampton General Hospital.

“It was a cracking evening, a stunning end to a wonderful year in which we have achieved so much as a company,” the Daily Echo quoted Portmore director Graham Jacobs as saying.

“We staged the dinner to thank people for their support over our 10 years and showcase the charities – who receive every penny of the incredible amount raised,” Jacobs added.

The charity dinner culminated in a series of challenges undertaken by Portmore staff, including 13 cyclists that journeyed from the company’s headquarters in the UK and to the Eiffel Tower in France.

Other challenges participated in by Portmore employees for charity were a 24-hour indoor triathlon, a 26-mile walk on the Isle of Wight and a 100-kilometre trek on the South Downs Way, according to the Daily Echo.
